Morning routine – heaven or hell? Some people hate anything that is routine and think it kills the soul. I, on the other hand, believe that routine helps you stay on top of your daily life and gives you room for what you really want to do. After all, efficiency frees up time, which, in turn, is what we all need to enjoy our own pursuits.
Increased productivity
As Dwight D. Eisenhower said:
Plans are useless, but planning is indispensable.
When you start a day with a morning routine, you start with a plan. Yes, it will get derailed sooner or later. It always does. But if you have an established morning routine, you can tackle some of your critical habits before the day gets away from you. With a plan and prioritized tasks, you can maximize your productivity.
Reduced stress
Are you saying that I don’t have to start my day frantically running around, trying to figure out how to get ready and what needs to happen?
Yes, I am. With a morning routine, you can avoid the anxiety of searching for everything and the stress that you may be forgetting something critical. Your day starts in a pre-planned fashion and since you’ve done it many times before, you can confidently go about your day.
Provides time for self-care
Do you think you could plan your morning in a way that would give you time for self-care, journaling and exercise? It may not be possible for all, but hopefully you can build those positive habits into your morning routine. After all, when creating one, you are looking for a healthier, happier lifestyle. Try to find a couple of minutes just to yourself.
Sets a tone for the day
Start your day strong! Make sure you get a win first thing in the morning – isn’t that why so many people insist on making their bed every day? Personally, I never cared for that activity, but I do start my day with a workout, which is a W for me. An early accomplishment will provide you with a dopamine hit, which will make you a happier, more positive person off the bat. It’s a lot easier to go through the day if you feel good about yourself. My observations suggest that people who hate the world ‘until they had their coffee’ when they arrive at the office appear less happy throughout the day. I am not saying you should skip your morning cup of joe. But maybe you could do it before you start spreading negativity into the world?
