Do you choose to do what you have always done? Well, then you are missing on a whole world of adventures out there!
I recall reading an article that recommends visiting at least one new place (and I don’t mean just a new restaurant or a different grocery store) every year. It stimulates the mind and allows you to break out of the routine. It doesn’t have to be big, expensive vacation. Have you visited every place within a day trip’s worth of driving from your home? No? Take advantage of a weekend or a holiday. Go visit!
But that’s not the only place where giving up ordinary matters. It’s not even the most important one. If you want an extraordinary life, you can’t follow the usual path taken by those around you. You have to carve out your own.
Personally, I never wanted to walk the beaten path. Many, many moons ago, when I was about to graduate from high school in Warsaw, Poland, I realized good chunk of my class was planning on attending Warsaw School of Economics. By then, I already knew I would be moving to the US, but I couldn’t shake off feeling of how dreadful would it be to do the same thing as everybody else. Now, I have my own life that is nothing like those of my high school friends. To be fair though – many of them found their own way to ditch the usual (very much helped by Poland joining European Union at just the right moment for them) and have extraordinary lives.
Will you follow the crowd today or will you reach for the stars?
