August 24, 2022: Habit

As you know, I am a strong believer in habits being your path to success. Things don’t just happen one day – you have to work on them daily!

My personal pet peeve is being told ‘you are so lucky’. I get to hear when my old friends hear I’m a CPA with a good job. Yeah, now I am, but do you know how hard it was to go to back to school and then study for the tests while working a job with long hours? Back then, people looked down on me for ‘not being fun’. How about my marathons and Ironman? Trust me, there is little luck involved there! You were not there when I had to wake up early on the weekends and go on a 100+ mile bike ride. It was a long, tedious, daily grind. But I got there!

I feel like this quote from Robert Collier is easiest to explain using sports, but that doesn’t mean it’s the only area in which it’s true. You want to be a writer? Then write a little bit every day. You want to speak a foreign language? Spend a few minutes every day on lessons – tons of apps, podcasts, YouTube videos and what-nots out there!

Positive daily small habits will help you with time management, too. Just think about it: write down the night before a list of things you need to accomplish. It will only take a couple of minutes. Then you can start your day confidently with a game plan, rather than scrambling for ideas what to do. It will also be easier not to miss deadlines or be late to meetings if you have an idea of things that need to be done or where and when you need to be.

Create good habits and you will be unstoppable!
