Motivation Monday: Habit

habit

Buddha lived over 25 centuries ago and he already saw the power of the habit. Most of our growth happens gradually and imperceptibly. Have you ever seen somebody after a very long time and they said ‘You changed so much! Hardly recognizable!’, but though ‘I’m still exactly the same person!’. You may not see the change within yourself, since it’s small, but others over time will. That’s one reason to keep journals or records of your activities – you will see that outsiders who notice your growth are right.

Many of you know by now that I enjoy using running and endurance sports as examples – because I engage in them a lot and because they are easily measurable. Facebook occasionally shows me posts from my runs in the past and I regularly get to think ‘I didn’t think I’ve done much, but I run so much faster now!’ It’s all the result of regular training and hard work. That’s how you learn languages, too – one lesson at a time, over the course of months and years. Why would you think it’s not applicable to other aspects of personal and professional growth?

You know what you need to do now, right? Work on deciding in which areas you want to grow in 2023 and choose habits that will get you there!
