I am actually chuckling as I read this quote, as it’s surprisingly timely based on a conversation I just had with a friend. Basic premise: New Year is the worst time for a wide variety of resolutions and new habits. Why? Well, after a wild, late night party, how do you feel about getting up early to go for a run? Especially if it hasn’t been your thing, even on a good day.
I am sure that when you woke up and looked at the list of things you were going to do in the new year, you just groaned. Many probably already decided that it would have to wait until the next day. I get it. I really do. And yes, the easiest way would have been to set yourself up for success ahead of the time.
But here we are: it’s time to get moving and you are feeling awful, starting to feel sorry for yourself. You allow excuses to reign supreme. Nothing positive will come out of it.
I agree with Dale Carnegie – feeling sorry for yourself is a road to nowhere. You may have been deal a tough hand (or you specifically chose the bad cards, like when you chose to go out partying before wanting to go for an early morning run), but focusing on it isn’t helpful. Take stock of what you have going for you, review your obstacles and get to work!
