Does adversity breed success? I think it’s one of the factors. If everything goes smoothly for you every day of your life, how will you find a drive towards change? At the very least, one must see problems in the world in order to work on doing something great.
Many, especially entrepreneurs, thrive on proving to the world that they would accomplish their goals. They literally build their success out of the bricks of negativity thrown at them. I don’t think it’s true for all of us. Some degree of negativity from those around us may spur us to action, but without somebody on our side, it’s really hard not to fall into a black hole of self-doubt.
Here is another way to look at the bricks thrown at you: frequently, people hate you for things that either remind them of themselves or they are jealous of. First, look carefully which pile given obstacle belongs in. If it’s jealousy – well, you found something you are awesome at! Celebrate it! Use it to further your goal. If it’s something that is like others? Maybe that’s an opportunity to address that weakness? Help resolve issues it creates? Either way, you just found something people around you notice in your life. Build on it!
What if it’s not your personal trait, but an obstacle thrown at you? Reframe it as a learning opportunity! Even if all you learn is whether this is something you can live with it, you are creating your own success. Self-awareness is, after all, one of the keys to growth.
